Personal Publicist
Advantage’s staff publicist will work with each author personally. This relationship begins with a telephone conversation between publicist and author to determine author’s media needs and aspirations. From that, our publicist will develop a press kit, craft press releases, and then pitch the media on the author’s behalf.
Hiring an Advantage publicist takes much of the guesswork out of the all-important promotion process. Our publicity staff offers an innovative approach to preparing an aggressive, detailed, and personalized publicity plan that will serve as the driving force of your book's success.
Your book publicist will help you to define your target audience and determine what they watch, listen, and subscribe to. We'll identify the Web sites, printed publications, and broadcast media that are best suited to your audience; write your press materials; and explore ways to tie your book to current events or interesting news angles to maximize interview and event opportunities.
After e-mailing and faxing your press release to selected media, your publicist will follow up with each contact to pitch the book. The publicist will then send the book and accompanying press materials to interested media and later contact them to set up interviews and confirm articles and reviews.
Important Note:
Authors hiring an Advantage book publicist are required to order up to 100 books throughout the campaign to be sent to our office to be used as review copies for the media. Any unused books will be returned to the author at our expense.
If the book is a runaway hit and the publicist generates extensive media interest, the author will be asked to purchase additional review copies of the book during the campaign as needed.
The author is responsible for mailing and printing material expenses including postage, Priority Mail charges, and photocopies. Advantage will bill the author on a monthly basis for these expenses. Advantage is responsible for all phone and fax expenses.
We recommend conducting the publicity campaign for at least four months. All of the media that are pitched and sent books in months one and two must be followed up repeatedly into month three and four in order to maximize the amount of publicity you receive. Your publicist will provide you with weekly reports of media contact and response.
Advantage cannot guarantee media coverage. Ultimately, whether or not the media is interested in the book depends solely on whether the media believes the book, the topic, or the author is newsworthy.
